Winter Newsletter 2019

-Some Free Classes in Burien next week
-Return of Push Hands practice on Saturdays
-Spiral Qigong Intensive
-More monthly Meditation workshops with Greg Patenaude
-Rates going up in the Spring

2018 was an amazing year of firsts, starting with our Costa Rica Tai Chi and Qigong Retreat which was an amazing success, followed by our first group trip to China to train in Chen Village and celebrate Grandmaster Zhen Zhenglei’s 70th Birthday. It also gave us challenges with Rus’s injury and slow recovery. I am happy to report that he is making progress and though is not able to walk without aid of a walker yet, is able to lift his foot from the knee against gravity. With weekly therapies supporting his recovery we are looking forward to more progress and a time when he can return to practice at the studio. Thank you everyone for all that you have done to help us both as we learn to navigate this new territory.

First, we begin our Winter Session tomorrow, Monday January 7th with classes at the Studio with Morning Qigong and Chen Tai Chi followed by the Tai Chi for Seniors class. And tomorrow night will be the first of our Chen evening classes. Also starting this week at the studio, Myles will be leading the Intro to Tai Chi class on Wednesdays at 6pm. And, come January 24th, Eldan will be back on Thursdays at 7:30pm to trail Laojia Erlu with you. For a full schedule of Winter Sessions, link here to our calendar.
The last weekend of January, we welcome back Master Art Baner for another series of workshops in Sensing Hands. We’ll bring new folks up to speed, reviewing previously covered material and continue in the exploration of moving step practice and 4 hands patterns and play. Space is limited so register early
This week in Burien, enjoy the Free Fitness week with us, starting on Tuesdays with:Tai Chi for Everyone on Tues., Jan. 8th at 10:45amChen Taijiquan at 6pm on Tues., Jan. 8th at 6pmQigong – Health of Body, Mind, & Spirit on Wed., Jan. 9th at 10:45amThese are free classes and open to everyone to come and try it out and share practice at the Burien Community Center, 14700 6th Ave. SW, Burien.
Returning this winter, we’ll have Push Hands practice class on Saturdays at 11am beginning January 12th and continuing through March 23rd. Open to all looking to deepen their practice. Partner work cultivates your understanding of alignment, sensitivity, connection, and flow.
As the days grow longer, I’ll be offering a Spiral Qigong Intensive the last weekend in February. This will be a two day training to learn and further develop your Ba Fa Pan Gen, with two sessions on Saturday and two sessions on Sunday. Unlimited tuition students get a steep discount. March 23rd 2pm – 7pm, Sunday 10am – 3:30pm.
And, continuing into the new year, Greg Patenaude will be offering meditation workshops the second Sundays of February, March and April, from 10am to noon at Wise Orchid. Check back with the calendar for more details.
Lastly, it’s been 2 1/2 years since we officially opened our studio on 20th and E. Union. Since that time, rent has increased, as have many other expenses. In addition, it was 2014 when the tuition was last increased. To continue to be viable and bring you the best classes I am able, I am letting you know that the tuition rates will be increasing about 5% come spring session. If this creates a hardship for anyone, please don’t be shy to connect with me, as I am open to helping make the class accessible to all who want to come. And, if you would like, you are always welcome to contribute to the scholarship fund to make it possible for those with less means to attend.

You can continue to take advantage of the old rates through the end of March, so feel free to pay it forward as far as you like. Thank you for your understanding and all your support.
With much good practice ahead, I look forward to seeing you soon.
Much love and gratitude,
Viola
